Food is all I really (want to) think about. While I love to cook and eat, I'm pretty educated in the nutrition realm (PhD, MPH, and am certified as an dietitian) and love applying research to understanding eating behavior. Particularly, skills on how to "nudge" yourself into mindlessly making better choices, which I hope to drip-feed through my posts. Until I went to university, my diet was almost 100% amazing Chinese, with some pizza, pasta, and desserts thrown in a few times a year during school events, etc. Unfortunately, I was never taught how to cook and it wasn't until my junior year of university when I first picked up a knife. I was clueless as to how to begin; my ex had to teach me how to hold and chop vegetables without maiming myself. I spent the first year making - and eating - pretty much only spaghetti with meat sauce or fried rice. It escalated pretty quickly after that when the gap between "what I can make" and "what I want to eat" widened and broadened. I cook widely now and am always looking to pick up new recipes and skills (though, deep-fat frying still scares the crap out of me). I'll be posting recipes that I love and hope to also share bits of science in relation to food, nutrition, and eating that might be interesting. View all posts by The Tart of Darkness
